Beginning Thursday, Big Y will have their wheat and white bread on sale for $.48 with a silver coin. You can get up to five loaves of bread and make your own Uncrustable sandwiches. My family LOVES Uncrustables, but I rarely buy them because they are expensive. A small box of just four sandwiches can cost up to $3.00. That’s nuts.
Home made Uncrustables are very easy to make. You can even get your kids to help make the Uncustables and turn this into a family project. All you need is bread, peanut butter (or soy nut butter), and jelly.
I did a little search on the internet and found a YouTube video of how to make these sandwiches. I thought the video would be a lot better than just typing out instructions – although the “chef” is a bit annoying. The guy in the video uses a glass to shape the sandwiches. I actually have a cutter that makes the sandwiches look just like Uncrustables. You can get these from Pampered Chef for $10.
After you’re done making a batch of these sandwiches, put them in individual sandwich bags and then put those bags in a big zip top freezer bag and freeze. Your family can just grab and go!
If you are wondering what to do with the leftover crusts of the bread, you can use it to make bread crumbs. Just put the crusts on a cookie sheet and toast until brown. Put the crusts into the food processor and you’ve got home made bread crumbs!
