I love to play games with friends and family so I readily agreed to review Scrabble Catch Phrase when the review was offered to me. At first, I thought this game was similar to Scrabble and didn’t relized it’s nothing of the sort until I took it out of the package. My husband was familiar with the original Catch Phrase game and said he used to play with his family all the time. Basically, Scrabble Catch Phrase is a lot like if the games Taboo and Charades had a child. You are given a phrase or word and the other team has to guess it. You aren’t allowed to say the word or any part of the word, you can’t tell anyone what the first letter is, and you can’t use a rhyming word. Other than that, anything goes including acting stuff out.
When I played Scrabble Catch Phrase with my family, we didn’t actually stick to the rules. We decided instead to have each person take a turn giving clues to the others and then pass the game on to the next person. Hubby and I had a blast watching the kids’ faces when they didn’t know what one of the phrases or words meant. We laughed a lot!
In a way, playing Scrabble Catch Phrase was also educational for my kids. When they didn’t understand a phrase or know what a word meant, Hubby and I took time out to teach them and explain. They even asked questions like they were interested!
I highly recommend Scrabble Catch Phrase for the family. We had so much fun we decided we were going to play on Thanksgiving with family and friends.
