Teachers Post Homework – Parents and Students Can Interact For Free

Some friends of mine are in the process of developing a website called  Hopping Parrot.  This will be a free website for teachers, students and parents and allow teachers to post class assignments, grades, progress notes, etc. for students and parents to access and interact with.   Although my friends have a school they will be working with to pilot the finished product, they do not currently have a sponsor to underwrite their efforts.  Because I believe in this project and think it will be an amazing resource for students, parents, and teachers once complete, I am personally donating $100 toward their personal goal of $50,000.  Please visit HERE and consider making a small donation.

Here is more information:

What is Hopping Parrot?

Hopping Parrot is a FREE web-based teacher to student/parent communication platform.

On Hopping Parrot, teachers will be able to create classes and add assignments, syllabi, and more that they will then be able to share with students/parents.

Students will  have access to their assignments with their own account or an account their parent has setup for them, depending on the age of the child.

Parents will be able to access academic and/or behavioral progress along with having direct communication with their child’s teachers. They will have access to see assignments and due dates  so they can work with their child to complete them.

The Problem:

Not all schools or programs have the capitol or access to an online system which they may use to make coursework, progress notes, or grades available online.

These schools and program categories include, but are not limited to:

  • Public Schools
  • Private Schools
  • Magnet Schools
  • Tutoring Programs
  • Private Colleges
  • Individual Teachers
  • Non-Profit Organizations

While schools seem to be more interested in cutting costs of their after school programs and funding for teachers’ salaries, Hopping Parrot may help schools save thousands of dollars each year spent on similar online services. They can then re-direct more funding to appropriate areas.

The Solution:

Develop a FREE platform for teachers to share coursework/homework, communicate with parents, and share academic and behavioral progress and grades online for all levels of education.

Who is Hopping Parrot For?

Students:

Hopping Parrot is being designed with all levels of education in mind. We, as the designers and developers, are planning the platform with the vision that any student would be able to utilize Hopping Parrot from grade school through their college career.

Parents:

Hopping Parrot is for parents who are interested in keeping track of their child’s coursework and communicating more effectively with teachers. Parents will be able to access homework assignments and resources in the event homework is left at school, an assignment is lost, or  a child is absent from school.  Hopping Parrot will also open lines of communication to their child’s teacher, getting parents more involved with the learning process.

Teachers:

Hopping Parrot is a huge resource for teachers from all practices. Teachers will be able to make their coursework, progress notes, and grades available online and share it with their students.

Hopping Parrot is also aware of how much time teachers put into teaching and planning.  Therefore, teachers will not always have to work from scratch when creating a new class to share . They may copy and refine their classes and coursework over time.

Teachers will also have a clearer form of communication between their students and parents.  Homework assignments, permission slips, reminders of upcoming events, and much more can easily be communicated.
