From Coupons to Cuisine – Episode 1

Welcome to our first installment of From Coupons to Cuisine – a joint endeavor with my husband, Gary.  Gary is the cook in our family and has a blog, A Real Dad Makes Real Food, that features his recipes.  I thought it would be fun to use my couponing skills with his cooking prowess and create recipes using the weekly sales at ShopRite. (My grocery store of choice!)

This week (1/21 – 1/27/18), Gary and I are featuring two recipes based on what you’ll find on sale at ShopRite:  Bacon Wrapped, Maple Glazed Pork Roast and Banana Pudding.   The pork roast is on sale for $1.99 lb and ShopRite bacon is also a low $1.99 as well.  Gary’s pork recipe calls for apples in the stuffing, but you can easily substitute the Anjou or Bosc pears, which are $1.69 lb this week.  The pudding recipe requires bananas, which are on sale for $.49 lb, and eggs, which are FREE this week.

To round out your dinner, you can also add mashed potatoes to your meal.  Potatoes are on sale for $1.49.  If you want to fancy it up a bit, you can always add roasted garlic and a brick of cream cheese ($.99!) to your mashed potatoes. (You’ll find an easy roasted garlic recipe HERE.) Gary always adds cream cheese to his mashed potatoes because it makes them extra creamy.  Of course, you’ll need a vegetable, so make sure you also throw some Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies for $.99 into your grocery cart.

Please let us know how these recipes worked out for you.  You can find Gary on his Facebook Page or you can leave him a comment on his website.  Of course, you know where to find me!
